African Americans & Heart Disease is a ground breaking special program addressing one of the most important issues facing African Americans today.

In a recent study the New England Journal of Medicine found that African Americans under the age of 50 experience heart failure at 20 times the rate of Caucasians. These are people who are in prime of their lives and would be contributing in all kind of ways. The disease has a devastating effect not only on the individual but on families, the community and society in general. The purpose of the program is to educate, offer solutions and save lives.

African Americans & Heart Disease identifies the risk factors associated with African Americans and examines the steps necessary to reduce the risk of heart related disease. Included are interviews by respected health experts as well as people from various walks of life who have heart disease or have lost a loved one to heart disease. The show informs the viewing audience about major topics such as; diet and exercise, lifestyle choices, understanding your numbers, treatment and follow-up.

The program is a one half hour format, hosted by Cicely Tyson, and airs during the 4th quarter of 2009. This landmark special program provides guidance and answers to one of the most devastating issues facing African Americans today.
